Social Epidemiology: Concepts, Methods, and Examples of Application

The crisis related to the Covid-19 pandemic has revealed more than ever the role of social inequalities in the health and access to healthcare of populations. Social epidemiology aims to determine why and how health status is unequally distributed according to individual social factors (socio-economic level, social support, migratory trajectory) and contextual factors (physical and social environment, economic and political conditions).

This practical book aims to raise awareness and improve the consideration of social determinants of health, from the field of general medicine to public health studies. It allows for both the acquisition of theoretical concepts of social epidemiology and the understanding of data collection methods, data analysis, and specific interventional approaches aimed at reducing health inequalities.

Illustrated through case studies, designed as a pedagogical and practical tool, this book is intended for students as well as healthcare professionals, policymakers, educators, and researchers.
