Many congratulations to Vittoria Colizza and Karine Lacombe, winners of the European call for projects "Horizon Europe cluster health 2024"

Two European projects led by two researchers from iPLesp have been awarded funding under the European "Horizon Europe cluster health 2024" call for projects.

Horizon europe

The European PIPELINE and EU-PROACT projects

The PIPELINE (Pregnancy and Infant PrEparedness pLatform IN Europe) and EU-PROACT (European PROactive Adaptive Clinical Trials network) projects have just received funding from the European Commission as part of the "cluster Health 2024" call for projects under the Horizon Europe programme.

Within iPLesp, Vittoria Coliza from the Sumo team will be taking part in the PIPELINE project and Karine Lacombe will be responsible for the scientific coordination of the EU-PROACT project.

The ambition of the PIPELINE project is to develop a dedicated pregnancy-infant preparedness platform for adaptive trials, to improve pandemic preparedness for these underserved populations. Several objectives have been defined for this project:

  • establish a multi-country adaptive trials platform that that can support novel diagnostics, vaccines and therapeutics for infections in pregnancy and infancy, able to pivot rapidly to emerging health threats;
  • create and sustain a responsive and “ever-warm” clinical trial network of sites with expertise in recruiting pregnant women and infants and adaptive trial designs;
  • undertake an adaptive platform trial on respiratory syncytial virus immunisation in pregnant women and infants, to test the platform’s capabilities and address a public health priority for the EU;
  • evaluate novel sampling techniques and immunity approaches with relevance for preparedness;
  • and embed all activities within sustained dissemination, exploitation and communication with key stakeholders to translate results into policy recommendations.

The PIPELINE project will be coordinated by FONDAZIONE PENTA ETS, in partnership with Inserm, Université Paris Cité and EHESP.

The main aim of the EU-PROACT project, which will receive an endowment of €8,440,000, is to prepare Europe for future diseases with epidemic or pandemic potential by strengthening and exploiting existing networks of experts and civil society focusing on clinical trials of therapeutic platforms in hospitals throughout Europe. The project is led by Inserm, Sorbonne University and ANRS-MIE, as part of a consortium of 20 European countries and 23 partners.

The two winners are now part of the RAISE network (Réseau Alumni Inserm des lauréatS de projets Europe), which has the following aims:

  • to recognise the investment and success of researchers from Inserm teams in European projects;
  • to promote your experience in order to improve the Institute's support systems;
  • to promote your experience among your peers who have not yet attempted the European adventure.
